Environmentally friendly Guitars in Dundee

Building guitars from recycled timber has always appealed to my inherently ‘green’ side. Many tonewoods have become increasingly expensive over the years due to wholesale deforestation in certain areas of the world. There are many alternatives  when sourcing suitable timber. The wood from old furniture, for example, can be put to very effective use in the construction of various musical instruments. Often, timber not traditionally associated with the manufacture of guitars can produce excellent results. Oak being a prime example. Building guitars in an eco friendly manner helps lessen the impact on the environment. See  ‘Building the Oak Guitar

The Hastings GuitarThe ‘Hastings’ Custom Guitar
The soundboard of this guitar is Yellow Pine salvaged from Dundee Royal Infirmary during its conversion into private accomodation. The back and sides are Oak sourced from Culzean Castle during renovation. The neck is an unknown piece of tropical hardwood washed up on the shores of Thailand after the great tsunami of 2004. The fingerboard, bridge and headstock veneer are solid Ebony.
The design was inspired by that of the Gibson J200. The body was made smaller in size, making it more comfortable for the player.
“The sound and clarity of this guitar is exceptional, with a warmth and depth that is wholly unique”. Murray Davidson
